LAHORE, Oct 22: Pakistan made it to the Guinness Book of World Records on Monday with another two records, one for forming the world’s largest national flag by youths and the other a human mosaic of the Lahore Fort at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday.

About 24,200 school and college students took almost two and a half hours to complete the formation of the national flag, breaking the previous record set in Hong Kong in 2007 by 21,726 people.

The students remained standing for 10 minutes, allowing Gareth Deaves, adjudicator of the Guinness Book, and other officials to ascertain the figure.

Thousands of boxes had been meticulously placed to position the students to form the flag.Students poured into the stadium as organisers supervised them to ensure the record.

“It was an amazing view and after going through the figure of 24,200 I declared it another world record,” Mr Deaves said.

Another record was set when 1,936 students formed the world’s biggest human mosaic. The attempt eclipsed the previous record set by 1,458 people in the United States in December last year.

The students took an hour to form the mosaic of Lahore Fort and the Guinness World Record adjudicator observed the attempt from different angles and heights before declaring it a record.

The students had also set a record on Saturday when around 42,000 of them sang the national anthem together. Although the government had released the figure of 70,000, Mr Deaves said the number was around 42,000.

The participants said they had achieved the milestone after a month-long training.
