KARACHI, Oct 19: Medium-pacer Abid Nawaz returned fine figures of five for 27 as Khalil Lions CC crushed Asifabad Sports by nine wickets at the Asifabad Sports Ground to qualify for the final rounds of the Mehdi Hasan Memorial KCA Inter-club cricket tournament here the other day.

Batting first in the Group ‘E’ tie, Asifabad Sports were bundled out for 94 in the 24th over. Slow left-armer Mohammad Irfan provided excellent support to Abid by claiming three wickets for 15 runs.

Khalil Lions CC, in reply, reached their modest target in only 15 overs with Abbas Shakir Ali (44 with seven boundaries) and Sanaullah (40 not out with three fours and two sixes) leading the way.

Al-Noor Gymkhana also made it to the main phase of the tournament from Group ‘E’ after overwhelming New Paramount CC by 99 runs at the TMC Ground.

Ijaz Shah excelled by smashing seven sixes and six fours in a belligerent innings of 90 from 89 deliveries as Al-Noor Gymkhana amassed 280-6 in their 45 overs. Ahmed Iqbal also batted splendidly to score 60 with the aid of seven hits to the ropes. Ahmed later claimed three wickets for 22 runs as New Paramount CC were all out for 181 in 39 overs.

In another fixture played at the RLCA Ground in Gulberg, Vital Five CC defeated Malir Companion CC by seven wickets with off-spinner Hasan Mahmood grabbing four wickets for just nine runs for the winning side.
