CHARSADDA, Oct 17: The government girls’ college Charsadda is facing host of problems, including shortage of teachers, classrooms and a faulty drainage system. Over 1,200 students are getting education in the college.
The college was founded in 1977 and was shifted to the existing building in 1987. Twelve classrooms of the ramshackle building of the college are housing over 1,200 students, teachers and students complained to Dawn on Wednesday. On an average, 100 students have been accommodated in one classroom, they said, adding even the lone laboratory of the college has been converted into classroom to accommodate the students.
At least 40 teachers are needed for the college but there are only 25 lecturers, they further complained. The sewerage system of the college was destroyed during the 2008 devastating floods and is yet to be repaired. Open sewage line of whole the Prang area passes through the college premises. The stinking smell from the open sewerage line has further aggravated the situation, they complained, adding they are vulnerable to hazardous diseases.
They said if funds were allocated the 36 kanals of the unused land of the college could be utilised for constructing new block to accommodate the students.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed separately on Wednesday.
A woman reported to the Khanmai police that body of her husband, Rafiullah, was found in the fields a day after he went out of his house. She named Khairullah, Bakhtawar Shah and Qasim of Hajiabad in the FIR. The motive behind the incident was stated to be a land dispute.
In another incident, Muneer, son of Bahadar Sher of Sarkai Korona, reported to police that Dawlat Khan and Rukhsar, sons of Mohammad Anwar, opened fire on him and his brother Sher Mohammad, killing Sher Mohammad on the spot, while he escaped unhurt.
