PESHAWAR, Oct 15: Physically challenged persons are denied jobs in government departments despite a quota and the government is indifferent to their plight.

This was stated by Special Persons Development Association president Mahazullah during an International Special Persons Day function here at Peshawar Press Club.

Mr Daudzai said the government had failed to take tangible steps for addressing the disabled persons’ issues.

He said disabled persons had time and again pushed the government for implementing job quota for them and removing unrest among them.

Accompanied by SPDA general secretary Ihsanullah, Mr Daudzai said physically challenged persons were part of the society and therefore, they’re entitled to all rights given to healthy persons under the Constitution.

He said by and large, the society didn’t recognise disabled persons as perfect persons, but if given a chance, they could prove that they had the capability to do everything in life by determination and dedication.

The SPDA president said the people shunned physically challenged persons though their rights were protected in the Constitution.

He said his organisation was established to highlight issues faced by disabled persons in the society and was doing the task efficiently.

Mr Daudzai said his organisation would continue fighting for the rights of the disabled persons.

He said physically challenged persons were contributing their due share to national development and progress by serving in many private and public sector institutions.

The SPDA president expressed dissatisfaction with facilities at public places and transport for physically challenged persons and said denial of rights had been stressing out the community.

He said unlike Pakistan, other countries of the world provided disabled persons with all basic facilities of life.

Mr Daudzai demanded early yet effective resolution of the problems faced by disabled persons, especially joblessness, so that they could lead an honourable life.
