HARIPUR, Jan 1: Provincial minister for local government and rural development Sardar Idrees said here on Tuesday that the MMA’s government was seeking to bring about reforms in the present Local Body system.

“We don’t want to do away with the local government system or bringing about changes in it, rather we want to make it more effective with certain reforms”, he said this while speaking to the participants of a ceremony held to commemorate the sanitation week in the city.

Riaz Khan Jadoon district Naib Nazim and Tehsil Nazim Iftikhar Ahmad Khan were also present on this occasion.

The minister said that since the MMA’s government in the frontier province was pursuing its basic agenda of amelioration of the marginalized and deprived classes, it would not take any initiative detrimental to the prosperity of the downtrodden.

Mr Idrees said that the government wanted to develop an understanding amongst the federal, provincial and district governments by clearing certain flaws which were also being felt by the Nazimeen and councilors.

About NGOs the provincial minister made it clear that the NGOs operating in the NWFP would not be allowed to carry out their work if their activities were found in contravention of Islamic teachings and its norms.
