Missing man found dead

TAXILA, Oct 10:  One of the bodies, found from a deserted place near Gheershen village in the limits of Hassanabdal police station on October 5, has been identified as belonging to a missing person.

Talking to newsmen on Wednesday, Investigation Officer (IO) Sub Inspector Khuda Dad said the deceased was identified as Jannat Gul, according to family members, The body of the other man, presumably an Afghan in his 40s, remains unidentified. — Correspondent

Bosnian president awarded

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: In recognition of his meritorious transnational services and rare leadership attributes, an honorary doctorate of philosophy degree was conferred upon President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic by the National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust) on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf accompanied the president to the special convocation ceremony held at the main campus of Nust. A large number of government functionaries, luminaries, senior management of Nust, scholars and university students were present on the occasion.

President Bakir is currently on an official visit aimed at improving bilateral relationship.

While delivering his acceptance speech, President Bakir said the unique Pakistan-Bosnia bond had a history of close government-to-government and people-to-people cooperation, which led to its firm foundation and growth.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Ashraf said the gesture of awarding a PhD to President Bakir Izetbegovic would strengthen the link between Pakistan and Bosnia. —A Reporter

Funds raising event

ISLAMABAD, Oct 10: In August 2012, heavy monsoons triggered flooding in Pakistan and the Philippines causing massive destruction. The Philippines and Pakistan floods have left thousands of people in evacuation shelters and exposed to danger of epidemics.

Keeping the flood victims in mind, Kuch Khaas in collaboration with the Progressive Filipino Society is organising a ‘Benefit Jazz Concert’ with live auction and raffle draw to raise money for them. Musicians who would perform include Arieb Azhar and Natasha Ejaz besides Me You AND Mi band.

The event will be held at Kuch Khaas –The Center for Arts, Culture and Dialogue at H. No. 1, Street 1, Margalla Road, F-6/3, in Islamabad on Friday (October 12) at 7pm.

Mehfil-i-Mushaira

RAWALPINDI, Oct 10: Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Wednesday organised a mehfil-i-mushaira in connection with the Punjab Youth Festival.

Students of various colleges from Rawalpindi participated in the mushaira, where renowned poet Anwar Masood was the chief guest. Naheed Manzoor and Resident Director RAC Waqar Ahmed were also present on the occasion.

Famous poet Noreen Talat, Farzana Janan and Asad Baig judged the poetry competition. Hasan Bilal from Fauji Foundation College secured first position whereas Aneeqa Imtiaz of Government Degree College for Women Benazir Bhutto Road and Humaira Khan from Government Degree College for Women Hassanabdal, tied for the second position. Sara Khan of Khadija Umer College for Women secured the third slot.—A Reporter
