LAKKI MARWAT, Oct 9: Top slots of Lakki Marwat and Naurang tehsil municipal administrations have been lying vacant for around a month, adversely affecting the two civic bodies’ operations.

According to provincial general secretary of Local Government Employees’ Federation (LGEF) Anwar Kamal, Lakki TMO Abdul Wahid Khattak and Naurang TMO Qalam Badshah Khattak were suspended on Sept 12 and gave the acting charge of their offices to junior officers.

He told Dawn on Monday that acting TMOs could issue orders on payment of salary and pension only.

“They can’t use development funds meant for provision of municipal services to local residents,” he said.

Mr Badshah said filling stations had refused to provide oil to the two TMAs for their vehicles, while mechanics had refused to repair faulty water pipelines.

He said owners of the filling stations and mechanics had demanded clearance of their previous bills, but the acting TMOs couldn’t do so.

The LGEF general secretary said vehicles of fire brigade unit couldn’t be used due to unavailability of oil.

He said delay in appointment of permanent TMOs had badly affected sanitation services, water supply and other facilities.

Mr Badshah warned that people could agitate against denial of basic civic services.

Meanwhile, EDO (education) Meer Azam Khan was thrashed by a school’s principal and three people near Muslim Bagh area on Sunday evening.

According to Mr Meer, principal Khalid Wahab, Irfan and two unidentified beat him black and blue over denial of appointment to their men as junior clerks to education department.

Police said they would book the four after receiving the medicolegal report of the EDO.
