Father, son killed on road

TAXILA, Oct 8: A man and his son were killed when their car overturned on G.T. Road in the jurisdiction of Wah Saddar police on Monday.

The police said Suleman Ahmed and his son Imran Ahmed, of Nawababad, were coming from Hassanabdal when they met with the accident. The injured were taken to hospital where they died. —Correspondent

Constable dies on road

ISLAMABAD, Oct 8: A constable was killed after being hit by a speeding truck at Ninth Avenue here on Monday, police said.

Nazeer Ahmed, 50, deployed at a picket on the Ninth Avenue, signaled for the driver of a Shahzor Truck to stop but he ignored him and tried to cross the zigzag, while reducing some speed. But, in the meantime, he lost control over the steering and the truck hit the constable and also the barrier.

As a result of the collision the truck stopped, and other policemen deployed there caught hold of the driver. The injured constable was shifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation officer ASI Mehbood said that the driver and the vehicle were taken into the custody and shifted to Industrial Area police station for further legal action. —Staff Reporter

Criminals apprehended

ISLAMABAD, Oct 8: The capital police have arrested five persons including two women from different areas of the city and recovered a vehicle, valuables, narcotics and weapons from them, a police spokesman said on Monday.As per reports, the Tarnol police arrested a man and two women during a special checking and recovered 2.3kg hashish and a 30-bore pistol.

The Ramna police apprehended a man attempting to steal cash from a money box of a mosque in G-10 Markaz, and recovered Rs19,187 from him.

Similarly, the Anti-Car Lifting Cell arrested a man and recovered a Suzuki Bolan at Tarnol checkpoint.

Separate cases have been registered against the accused. — Staff Reporter

Call to resolve public issues

FATEHJANG, Oct 8: Sher Ali Khan, MPA, has directed the departments concerned to resolve civic problems being faced by the residents.

He was speaking at an open kutchery here during which the residents lodged complaints against lack of facilities.

Most of the complaints pertained to shortage of drinking water and against the revenue department.

The MPA said for the last about five years he had completed 100 development schemes out of his development funds. He said he would work for initiating more projects in the area.—Correspondent
