LAHORE: While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still taking its time on issuing a show-cause notice to all-rounder Abdul Razzaq for his outburst against T20 captain Muhammad Hafeez, it has reacted rather swiftly in serving one to legendary leg-break bowler Abdul Qadir who is now an employee of the PCB.

Qadir was charged for violating the Board’s policy while giving out critical comments against the Pakistan team on a private TV channel during the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, well informed sources told Dawn.

Interestingly, the PCB has given permission to a few Test cricketers to speak to the media, despite their being on the Board’s payroll, but with the condition that they will not criticize the national side for any of its performances.

However, the sources said that Qadir, known for always speaking his mind, was penalised for criticising the national team on the channel in his candid analysis during the mega event.

On the other hand, the PCB officials are still waiting for a go ahead from the high-ups on whether to issue a showcause notice to Razzaq.

A frustrated Razzaq had hit back at captain Hafeez for not including him in the team which played the semi-final of the World Cup against Sri Lanka.

Hafeez had allegedly preferred all-rounder Sohail Tanvir over Razzaq for the key game which Pakistan lost.

Before the start of the semi-final, some private TV channels had also reported that Hafeez was not even ready to accept the team management decision which was also favouring Razzaq.

The team management during the World T20 comprised head coach Dav Whatmore, manager Naveed Akram Cheema and selector Saleem Jaffar.
