UNITED NATIONS, Oct 6: The UN Security Council’s Al Qaeda sanctions committee has decided to remove Saudi businessman Yasin Abdullah Ezzedine Qadi from the UN sanctions list, Germany’s UN Ambassador Peter Wittig announced here on Friday.

“The Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee today agreed to follow the Ombudspersons recommendation and remove Mr Qadi’s name from the Al Qaeda Sanctions List,” said Mr Wittig, chairman of the committee, in a statement.

As of Friday the sanctions committee agreed to follow the Ombudsperson’s recommendation and remove Mr Yasin Abdullah Ezzedine Qadi’s name from the Al Qaeda Sanctions List. This decision is the result of thorough considerations among members of the committee based on a comprehensive report provided to the committee by the Ombudsperson.

The case of Mr Qadi’s delisting demonstrates that the work of the Ombudsperson has contributed to improving clear and fair procedures in the delisting process.
