JOHANNESBURG, Oct 5: A disciplinary hearing to investigate allegations of wrongdoing against suspended Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola can go ahead after his appeal against some of the charges was dismissed.

CSA said on Friday that the hearing — which was delayed by the appeal — will now begin on Tuesday.

Majola is accused of organising bonus payments of 4.7 million rand ($540,000) for CSA staff, including $140,000 for himself, from the 2009 Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament that was held in South Africa.The payments were not approved, and an independent judicial committee said Majola tried to cover them up.

Majola was suspended in March.

Nicholas Preston, a lawyer acting for CSA, says his body is confident of its case but Majola will be “subject to a fair hearing.”—AP
