FAISALABAD, Dec 30: The city and its surrounding areas are in the grip of stomach and liver diseases due to the negligence of government agencies and improper eating habits.
This was stated by physicians and specialists while speaking at a seminar on ‘Hapatobiliary diseases and Gastro-enterology’ organized by practising doctors forum ‘Healing Hands’ here on Monday.
They said it was imperative for the practitioners to educate their patients about basic principles of hygiene, food dietary habits and preventive inoculation against hepatitis.
Prof Dr Irshad Haq said the family physicians and general practitioners should create awareness among their patients to adopt healthy living practices. Patients, he said, should be briefed about early symptoms of common stomach and liver diseases to minimize the incidence of such diseases.
Improper eating habits, heavy use of fats, species and chilies in food and impure drinking water were some of the major causes of common stomach and liver diseases, including the killer hepatitis diseases, he said.
Physician Dr Mohsin Rana said that general practitioners could play a significant role in checking the high rate of stomach and liver related diseases by giving due importance to signs like change of colour or abnormality in nails, skins and hairs. Patients of such symptoms should be referred to specialists for treatment to avoid complications, he said.
Dr Rana advised the participants to create awareness among their patients about the advantages of balanced diet, proper and daily exercise.
Physicians Dr Azam Bukhari, Dr Zahid Yasin Hashim, Dr Nusratullah Chaudhry, Dr M. Asim, Dr Altafur Rehman, Dr Hina Ayesha, Dr Samina Khalid, Dr Maqsood Ahmed, Dr Ghiasunnabi, Dr Sohail Farooq, Dr Ghazanfar Rizvi and Dr Hamid Raza Mazhar also read their research papers.
They said the objective of the seminar was to provide a forum to general practitioners to share their experiences for the improved treatment to their patients and to refresh their knowledge.
RECOVERED: A sum of Rs154 million was recovered from the defaulters during the last five months by the Revenue Department in the Faisalabad district.
The recovered amount also includes the recovery of Rs16.09 million made during the month of November. This was disclosed during a monthly meeting of the district revenue officers held under the chairmanship of EDO (Revenue) Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf here on Monday.
The meeting was attended by DO (Revenue) Mehr Sultan Mahmood, DDOs, ADOs, (Revenue), tehsildars and naib tehsildars, representatives of the Irrigation, Water Management, Bait-ul-Maal, Agricultural Development Bank and others.
