THATTA, Sept 30: The Sindh Bachayo Committee (Save Sindh Committee) on Sunday called for a complete ‘wheel-jam and shutter down’ strike across the province for Monday (today) in protest against possible approval of the Sindh People’s Local Government Bill 2012 by the provincial assembly.
A meeting held in this regard at the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party House was presided over by Sindh United Party president Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah.
Flanked by Dr Qadir Magsi, Abdul Qadir Ranto, Dr Safdar Sarki, Ali Hassan Chandio, Ibrar Qazi, Azhar Jatoi, Syed Nawaz Ali Shah Bhadai, Akash Mallah and others, Mr Shah told a press conference at the Thatta Press Club that a parliamentary party meeting of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party on Sunday had decided to table the SPLGO bill and get it approved by the assembly on Monday.
“Tomorrow is a black day in the province when elected representatives are going to betray the general population of Sindh who voted them to power,” said Dr Magsi.
He said that the nationalists were aware of hardships being faced by the people of Sindh due to consecutive strike calls, but the people should consider that the passage of the SPLGO bill would cause irreparable losses and a severe blow to the integrity of Sindh and the nationalists would never tolerate it.
Mr Shah, who is the SBC convener, appealed to the Awami National Party, Jamaat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, JUI, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, National People’s Party, PML-Q, PML-N, lawyers’ bodies, NGOs, etc, to support and make the strike a success.
He said the SBC would not sit idle and would convene its second crucial session on Monday afternoon to sort out periodical strategies and compel the government to withdraw the controversial bill. The nationalists would go to any extent to achieve its goal and get the legitimate rights of Sindh restored, he added.
Mr Shah said the SBC identified at least 35 points of the controversial ordinance, which were absolutely against provincial autonomy and ultimately strengthened the centre.
He said in the new LG law autonomous bodies would make their own laws and even evolve new administrative departments.
He said the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz had also given a strike call to build pressure for lodging a murder FIR in the Bashir Qureshi death and an analysis of his organs and the SBC call could also be considered a supportive call for the JSQM demands.
Earlier, the SBC leaders also addressed a big gathering at Makli and said that they had initiated a mass contact drive from Thatta district to get the legitimate rights of Sindh and they would continue their protests till the achievement of their goal.
