FDE directive
ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: In order to enhance the working efficiency of the institutions, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has asked all schools and colleges to involve parents of students in educational activities.
For this purpose, election to the parent-teacher association (PTA) will be held on October 1 and most of the schools will be closed for students on that day, it has been learnt.
A teacher of a school in I-8/2 while talking to Dawn said parents had been requested to attend the meeting to elect the PTA members.
The Islamabad Model College for Boys (postgraduate), H-8, has also announced its decision to hold the PTA meeting on Monday, which will elect the PTA members under the supervision of Professor Kazim Hussain, the principal of the college.
Professor Riasat Ali Abbasi, the chairman of the geography department and in-charge of PTA, will brief the meeting.
Professor Abbasi said PTA was the most effective forum of parents and teachers in order to ensure education, training and character building of the students.
The meeting will elect the president, general secretary, finance secretary and eight executive members of the PTA. — A Reporter
Drama festival gains momentum
RAWALPINDI, Sept 29: The drama festival gained momentum on Saturday as two plays were staged at the Rawalpindi Arts Council auditorium.
The students of Government Degree College for Women Dhoke Mangtal, Rawalpindi gave an exclusive performance of ‘Tameer-e-Nau’, written and directed by Shehla Gul.
The story is based on students who squander time in gossips without caring for their parents. Finally, they realise their obligations and become civilised citizens.
The second drama, written and directed by Nargis Ayaz of Government Degree College for Women Zafarul Haq, Rawalpindi, was titled ‘Hum Kaon Hain Kia Hain Ba-Khuda Yad nahin’.
It concerns the increasing trend in intoxication in educational institutions and measures to curb such activities.
The award-distribution ceremony of the inter-college drama competition will be held on October 1 (tomorrow) at 10am. The students of Fatima Jinnah Women University will perform their drama prior to the closing ceremony. — A Reporter
Nanotechnology moot
ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: In order to highlight the need for technologies, the department of electronics, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), is holding a five-day international conference on nano-science and technology from October 1.
Scientists from Pakistan and abroad, including some renowned names in nano sciences and technologies like Gernot Alber (Germany), Vanderlei S. Bagnato (Brzail), Andreas Buchleitner (Germany), Kohzo Hakuta (Japan), Markku Jaaskelainen (Sweden), Irene Mazoli (Italy), Talat S. Rahman (USA) and Chen Wang (China) will participate in the conference.
The conference will cover the areas of surface probe nano scopy, nano electronics, nano photonics and others.
Nanotechnology is presenting possibilities which could have been never imagined, such as engineering devices with few atoms.
In drug delivery, nanotechnology has been a boom for the medical field by delivering drugs to specific cells using nanoparticles. — A Reporter
