ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: On government directives, the ministry of communications is undertaking effective measures to beautify marine life and avoid pollution.

This was stated by the secretary communications, Iftikhar Rashid, while presiding over a meeting here on Sunday, which was convened to discuss matters relating to protection of marine environment.

The secretary said the communications ministry was arranging a study along the Bundle Islands near Karachi, which would cost about Rs20 million. The study will be conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Oceanography and ministry of science and technology, he added.

“The study will be completed within a period of two years.”

In connection with the use of land along the sea, attention should be paid to keep the marine environment clean and protect marine life, the secretary said.

Mr Rashid said all the concerned departments should work with mutual cooperation to maintain marine beauties and save these from pollution. A comprehensive policy will be framed in this regard, he added.
