KARACHI, Sept 26: In spite of their weaknesses and unpredictability Pakistan riding on their aggressive flair have the potential to reach the World Twenty20 semi-finals, former captain Rashid Latif said on Wednesday.
“Despite lacking in some areas, Pakistan have the firepower to reach the semi-finals stage,” Rashid said. “Currently, Pakistan are in good touch and have the momentum and they can reach the semi-finals despite facing a tough group in the Super Eights round.
“Weak-looking teams are more dangerous as they are more motivated to prove their worth as compared to top teams,” he added.
“The shortest version of cricket is altogether different from the conventional game.”
Pakistan, who won the 2009 World Twenty20 title by downing Sri Lanka in the final at Lord’s, feature in Group 1 along with top aspirants Australia, India and South Africa.
“South Africa’s winning ratio may be relatively better but Pakistan are unpredictable and that makes them dangerous [for their opponents],” Rashid, a veteran of 37 Tests and 166 ODIs, observed.
“Pakistan team always play their cricket with belligerence and that is the reason of their success,” the former wicket-keeper reckoned.—APP
