ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday proposed to hold elections again if turnout of the women voters in polling station(s) remains less than ten per cent, DawnNews reported.

According to a statement issued by the commission, the proposed bill was tabled in a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruudin G. Ebrahim and attended by all senior members of the ECP.

The bill was unanimously approved which is meant to increase women participation in the electoral process and to prevent groups or parties entering into an agreement for restraining women of a particular area or a polling station from exercising their right to vote.

This bill is now being sent to the ministry of law for forwarding it to the parliament for legislation.

Moreover, the issue of granting right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis was also deliberated in the meeting and it was decided that the matter will be taken up in a consultative meeting of political parties scheduled on September 27.
