SHIKARPUR, Dec 29: MMA Sindh president and MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto has criticized Gen Pervez Musharraf, federal ministers, and PML-Q leaders for their direct interference in the formation of the Sindh government.

He said this while talking to newsmen at the Madressah Furqanya Hall here the other day.

He said that the MMA would oppose all non-democratic and unconstitutional actions and would not compromise on principles.

He said that Gen Pervez Musharraf had failed in fulfilling his commitments for restoration of true democracy in the country and constitutional and democratic rights of the people.

About the formation of the Sindh government, Asadullah said that it was formed by adopting undemocratic methods due to which the majority party, the PPP, was deprived of its democratic rights to form the government.

He said that there should be no objection in withdrawing cases against all other politicians and activists of various parties as all the cases against the MQM governor involved in heinous crimes had already been withdrawn.

He demanded of the federal government and the Sindh government to establish purchasing centres for paddy and cotton at the central areas of the districts in Sindh through various agencies as had been done in Punjab.

He demanded early action be taken to run the sugarcane factories, which had stopped sugarcane crushing and due to this the sugarcane growers were suffering badly.

He demanded the desilting of canals and watercourses to enable the farmers to meet their water requirements.

TRIBAL DISPUTES: The district police and the district administration have evolved a new strategy in Shikarpur district so as to end the tribal disputes.

The district police deployed police and rangers at sensitive areas and main points of the district to check the movement of rival tribesmen as well as professional criminals who were committing crimes on the pretext of tribal disputes.

Besides, the district police administration is also holding meetings with the influential people of various tribes to settle disputes, particularly the dispute between the Mehars and Jatois.

Meanwhile, with the efforts of the district administration and the police, the date for holding jirga has been fixed for Jan 5, in order to settle the ongoing dispute between the Mehars and the Jatois in Shikarpur district.

A meeting between the chiefs of the Jatoi and Mehar tribes, is scheduled to be held on Jan 3 at the Circuit House Sukkur.
