FAISALABAD, Dec 29: Agriculture experts have recommended that laboratories be established in the country for estimating drug residues in livestock and poultry products so that excessive use of antibiotics and other drugs in animals could be avoided.

The recommendation was made at the concluding session of the 33rd All-Pakistan Science Conference held under the aegis of the Pakistan Association for the Advancement of Science at the University of Agriculture here.

The conference emphasized the need for an extensive awareness programme for the producers. The ISO-9000 and ISO-14000 certificates should be introduced for the packing and processing units to get safer animal products that could fetch better prices in the international market.
