PESHAWAR, Sept 24: The University of Peshawar (UoP) would extend all out cooperation to scientists of Afghanistan in exploration of natural resources in their country, said Vice-chancellor Dr Qibla Ayaz.
According to a press release, the vice-chancellor made the commitment during a meeting with a five-member foreign delegation of scientists led by Prof Michael Petterson of University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
The delegation called on Dr Qibla Ayaz and discussed with him collaboration of National Centre of Excellence in Geology, UoP with the universities of Kabul, Afghanistan and Leicester, UK.
The universities are linked with National Centre of Excellence in Geology, UoP through a three-year project, funded by the British Council, Pakistan. The project is aimed at assisting scientists of these institutes in professional development.
Prof Lutfullah Safi, Prof Abdul Samad Ghaffuri, Prof Abdul Ghias and Prof Mohammad Daud Shirzad of University of Kabul were also among the members of the visiting delegation, the release said.
Another press release said that plaque unveiling ceremony of a research room named after Dr Mohammad Anwar Khan was held at Area Study Centre, UoP here on Monday.
Late Dr Khan, former vice-chancellor of UoP and founder director of Area Study Centre served the university for more than four decades. Several initiatives were taken by him to promote research and enlightenment in this part of the world, according to the press release.
To acknowledge his services, Area Study Centre named a research room after him.
