RAWALPINDI, Sept 20:  Three police officers, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Civil Lines, Airport SHO and an investigating officer were suspended and charge sheeted after they were found guilty of negligence by a top level inquiry team constituted by the Punjab IG to probe into the murder of a woman at the site of her disputed land in Dhoke Gangal on August 17.

A court commission led by advocate Ghafran Khursheed Imtiazi was trying to resolve the dispute involving Sabira Bibi and Imtiaz Khokhar (alias Taji Khokhar), who is related to a former deputy speaker of National Assembly. The woman was gunned down by some armed men who were alleged supporters of Taji Khokhar.

Later, the heirs of the deceased woman sought justice from the IGP. They claimed that the local police had deliberately avoided the arrest of the accused. In response, the IGP constituted a high level inquiry team led by DIG Headquarters Lahore and sent the team to Rawalpindi to probe into the matter.

The team submitted its report in which the three police officers were found guilty of negligence. It maintained that the murder of the woman could have been averted had the police officials taken appropriate legal action.

In light of the inquiry report, DSP Civil Lines Malik Tariq Mehmood, SHO Airport Mian Afzal and Investigating Officer Asmat Mehmood were suspended. DSP Taimoor Khan replaced the suspended DSP whereas inspector Malik Rafaqat was posted as SHO Airport. — Staff Reporter
