Aqeel, Qamar clash in final

ISLAMABAD, Dec 28: Aqeel Khan and Nomi Qamar, lived up to their top seeding Saturday by setting up what is expected to be an interesting men’s singles final on Sunday of the 4th All-Pakistan Sirajul Haq Memorial Tennis Championship.

Number 1 seed Aqeel, a top Davis Cup player blasted Inam Gul in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals played at the spruced up PTF Complex while second seed Nomi Qamar, another Davis Cupper overcame the challenge of Shahzad Khan 7-5, 6-4.

Shahzad took the under-18 honours, claiming the singles crown by beating Babar Ali Khan 4-1, 4-0 with the under-14 title going to Usman Ijaz, a 4-2, 5-4 (5) winner against Tanveer Ashiq. Ibrahim Omer stood tall in the boys under-12 category, defeating Tabish Raza 4-1, 4-1.

Zahra Omer outplayed Sara Mahboob to take the girls under-18 title with a straightforward 4-0, 4-0 victory.

Sara qualified for the under-14 singles final by beating Anoosha Aslam 5-4 (3), 2-4, 4-1. Her opponent in Sunday’s decider will be Zehra Ali Khan.

Boys under-18 singles final: Shahzad Khan bt Babar Ali Khan 4-1, 4-0

Boys under-14 singles final: Usman Ijaz bt Tanveer Ashiq 4-2, 5-4(5)

Boys under-12 singles final: Ibrahim Omer bt Tabish Raza 4- 1, 4-1

Girls under-18 singles final: Zahra Omer bt Sara Mahboob 4-0, 4-0

Girls under-14 singles semifinals: Sara Mahboob bt Anoosha Aslam 5-4(3), 2-4, 4-1.
