ISLAMABAD, Sept 17: The industrial Area police booked a doctor for providing treatment to addicts without any specialisation and cheating people, police said on Monday.

The case was registered in response of a complaint lodged by Ijaz Khan, whose brother, a heroin addict was getting treatment from him for the last couple of months.

However, instead of giving up the addiction, the patient started using more quantity of narcotics since he was under treatment of the doctor.

The police quoted the complainant as saying his brother was also detained in the clinic for weeks and also operated, but he is still using narcotics.  He had paid Rs450,000 for the treatment but it did not cure the addiction of his brother.  Khan further alleged that he verified the doctor’s documents which turned out to be forged.

In response of the complaint, the Industrial Area police registered a case on charges of PPCs 419 (Punishment for cheating by impersonation), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating: 471. Using as genuine a forged document), and 473 (Making or possessing counterfeit seal, etc., with the intent to commit forgery punishable otherwise).

The Industrial Area police said that the doctor was operating a clinic in I-8/3 for the last three years and was being investigated by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and health department, which already declared him ineligible to cure addiction.

But despite reports against him, he still operated the clinic and no action was taken against him, the police admitted. The police raided the clinic of the doctor but he escaped, to avoid his arrest, the industrial area police said, adding, that efforts were in progress to trace and arrest him.— Staff Reporter
