HYDERABAD, Dec 28: A large number of the villagers, including women, staged a demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday against the proposed demolition of their villages by the administration of Petaro Cadet College.

The residents of Safar Khaskheli, Jam Suleman Samo, Mahram Khaskheli and Mallah villages of Petaro area participated in the demonstration.

Speaking at the rally, Jamshoro union council Nazim Najma Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Sumo, Hakim Chandio and others said that the authorities of Petaro college were planning to demolish four villages, which would be resisted by their residents.

They demanded of the president, the Sindh chief minister and the Sindh governor to prevent the college administration from demolishing the villages.

The protest was led by the activists of the Sindh Chandio Welfare Association, the Jamshoro Ittehad, the Yaadgar Sangat, the Sindh Jagirta Forum, the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party and the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz.

HUNGER STRIKE: The activists of the Communist Party of Pakistan observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club on Saturday to demand the enactment a new secular constitution in the country.

Talking to journalists, Sindh CPP secretary Comrade Rauf Korai and Comrade Aslam Udhano said that the 1973 Constitution had become out-dated.

They said that the 1973 Constitution should be scrapped and a democratic and secular constitution should be enacted, which should guarantee equal rights for the people, irrespective of caste, colour, and religion, and right of self-determination for the provinces.
