KARACHI, Sept 14: A team of the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances led by Oliver De Frouville called on Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM’s House on Friday and discussed with him the issue of alleged enforced disappearances in the province.

Mr Shah informed the team that there was a fully-fledged set-up as well as a system to monitor such things while the chief justice of Pakistan had also been taking interest in human rights issues.

He said that human rights cells had been set up at the Supreme Court and offices of the Sindh chief secretary, provincial police chief and various departments with the aim of protecting people’s human rights.

The chief minister informed the team that for the last four-and-a-half years, there had been no political activist kept in any prison of Sindh. In case of any HR violation having been observed, immediate and prompt action was taken by the government, he added.

Mr Shah said that full attention was being paid to human rights issues despite the fact that the country was engaged in the war on terror across the country.

Mr Frouville exchanged views with Mr Shah on issues of human rights and hoped that people would be provided relief in this regard.
