UMERKOT, Sept 14: Three students drowned in a pond of stagnant rainwater in the desert area of Umerkot on Friday. A group of students along with their women teachers had gone to Banbhralo Tarai, some five kilometres from here on Umerkot-Mithi Road for a picnic. The students were playing in the pond when three of them, Tuljaram, 12, Abdul Jabbar, 13, and Urs, 15, drowned. A rickshaw driver, Luqman Kumbhar, tried to rescue them but he himself lost his balance and a passer-by, Abdullah Rajar, dragged him out of the pond. He was shifted to the Umerkot district hospital for treatment.
