GUJRANWALA, Dec 27: The Pakistan Medical Association, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association and MMA on Friday staged a protest rally against the arrest of Dr Ahmad Javed Khwaja and his family members by FBI agents and other agencies in Lahore.
PMA and PIMA presidents Dr Ishtiaq Safdar and Dr Maj Abdul Qayyum (retired) and MMA MNA Qazi Hamidullah led the protest rally.
Doctors of both organizations gathered at Munir Chowk near district court and marched on the Sialkot Road, Civil Hospital Road and GT Road. Carrying banners and placards, they shouted slogans against the US and FBI.
The speakers warned the government that FBI agents should be send back otherwise they would launch a country-wide protest strike.
They said the US was interfering in our internal affairs which was shameful for the democratic government. They demanded that Dr Ahmad Khawaja and his family members should be released instantly.
Meanwhile, khatibs and prayer leaders in their Friday sermons also protested the arrest of the doctor and his family members and criticized the government for its pro-US policies.
BUSTED: The district police on Friday claim to have busted three gangs of inter-district dacoits and robbers during the last 24 hours.
Police also recovered a huge quantity of looted goods and illicit arms from their possession.
DPO Saud Aziz said the Mudassar gang was arrested by Alipur Chattha police in Said Nagar village, the Riaz gang by Wazirabad Saddar police in Khizri village and the Mubasher gang by Satellite Town police in Farid Town.
About a dozen members of these groups of outlaws were wanted by police for their involvement in the incidents of dacoity, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes. The outlaws confessed to have committed around 65 dacoities and robberies, he added.
