Church attack toll four

SIALKOT, Dec 27: Another victim of a Church attack succumbed to her injuries at a Lahore hospital late on Thursday night.

Shakila Bibi, 14, was laid to rest in her ancestral graveyard in Chianwali amid tight security on Friday.

Meanwhile, the local Christian community has announced to mourn the killing of four girls in a hand-grenade attack on a church.

On Friday, hundreds of Christians held a peaceful protest demonstration and chanted slogans against terrorism.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Joseph Hakim and Father Tariq Aizak pledged to struggle mutually with the Pakistan government for purging the country of terrorism.

Federal minister Raees Munir Ahmad also visited Chianwali on Thursday night and announced a compensation of Rs100,000 each for the heirs of those killed in the attack and Rs25,000 for the injured.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Husain and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto have also condemned the attack on the church.

UN OBSERVERS: Sialkot-based UN observers have taken serious notice of the killing of the Christian girls and injuring of 16 others in a church attack.

The UN observers visited the spot, and said the minorities who were enjoying complete religious freedom in Pakistan, should struggle mutually with the government for purging the country of terrorism.

INDIAN FIRING: A villager was injured in firing by Indian security forces on Bara Bhai village of working boundary’s Zafarwal-Shakargarh-Narowal sector on Friday.

Aslam, 35, was passing through the fields when some bullets fired by Indian troops hit him. He was admitted to the local CMH in critical condition.
