Pakistan seek Miandad’s expertise

KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test captain and prolific batsman Javed Miandad will join the national team in Sri Lanka to give batting tips ahead of the World Twenty20 this month.

Miandad will not interfere with the work of current boss Dav Whatmore for the September 18-October 7 tournament but will instead concentrate on any individual batting niggles following a series of recent collapses. He will be with the team in Sri Lanka during their warm-up matches and practice sessions until the start of the tournament.

“He has been given a special assignment for a short period before the start of the World Cup,” a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman said.

Miandad has previously acted as head coach of the Pakistan cricket team and is currently employed by the PCB as its director general.

“My main priority is to have pep talks with the players, to raise their spirits and confidence, and work with the batsmen in the nets, advise them on batting issues, keeping in mind the requirements of the World Cup and conditions in Sri Lanka,” the Test great was quoted as saying by cricket website ESPNCricinfo.

He has no experience of playing T20 and good in picking fights with others. So one should expect alot like this after the tour, particularly if pakistan loses.

This is a good gesture for the team as well as for PCB Pakistan team needs Icon like Miandad and Wasim Akrim in order to unite the team and remember one thing Carry the respect for green shirts think Pakistan first and for all.

Coach can point out your wickness in batting and show you how to correct it.Finaly it is the player who has to correct it in nets and also avoid those mistakes in the match.If player is not serious in correcting defects then results will be the same.Solution to this is to show him door and not to select him.Now a days cricketers are not listening and they are forming group to pressuized coach and management.

You guys obviously seem to have grown up after Miandad's heydays. The chap never accepted defeat, and there were occasions where even Imran had given up. His feuds with the Board are a different story because ever since he was chosen a captain ahead of many more seniors in 1979, he has never enjoyed the backing of those players who sometimes have been quite influential in the board. The real reason for his fall off with boards. Otherwise do remember, as a coach he brought you to the helm of affairs in 1999 winning a series against India, the Asian Test Championship and nearly led Pakistan to a WC win but for his feud with Akram who himself is responsible for finishing many a promising career

Javed Miandad,is no T 20 player. hence his inclusion will be exercise in futility.. rather, he may prove hindrance to the players and management. please exclude him for the good of Pak cricket.

Miandad is one of the best batsmen Pakistan has produced. However, his many stints with PCB as coach and in other capacities have never ended in a cordial way. Miandad is a unique example of a cricketer who after leaving the sport as a player has had more trouble with the Boards and the cricketers he has been handed to coach, than in his playing days. What I understand, he is a very ambitious person who likes to be in the limelight all the time. After few initial tries with PCB it would have been much metter if he had found something else to keep him busy and still keep him in limelight. Maybe something along the lines his rival in captaincy Imran found right after his retirement. Build hospitals, school and colleges. He would be better of by staying away from any paid jobs with PCB and Politics.

Pakistani cricket fans will see a welcome change in the batting. The batting had been the biggest problem in ODI and t-20. The middle order and lower order batsmen lacks consistency. A class batsman like Miandad, Inzi, Yousuf or Saeed Anwer are consistent. Its a shame that the best ODI and t-20 batsman Fawad Alam is not even in the 30 probables for any tour. Mohammad Ilyas ruined his career like others before him ruined Asim Kamal's future.
