MARDAN, Sept 10: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Monday said despite destructions of militancy and devastating floods, his government had completed record development projects across the province over the last four and a half years.

“We will sweep next elections in the province due to our good governance,” he told a public meeting here at the Government Degree College Toru.

The chief minister said his government had compensated the people of Mardan for 60 years of deprivation by launching unprecedented development work in the city.

Mr Hoti said despite being the second largest district in the province, Mardan had no university, medical college and good roads, and even GT Road passing through it had no streetlights.

He said his government released massive funds for construction, renovation and furnishing of mosques in Mardan city.

“(Our) Awami National Party is getting popularity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by each passing day due to its government’s good performance,” he said, adding that influential and elected representatives hailing from northern parts of the province and Hazara had joined the party.

He added that for the first time in the history, ANP ticket-holders from Kohistan had reached the provincial assembly.

Earlier, the chief minister inaugurated work on Suwaryan-Talao and Toru-Chopaloona roads, whose is estimated to be Rs106 million and Rs62 million respectively.

ANP MNA Himayatullah Mayar, MPA Ahmad Khan Bahahdar, district general secretary Javed Mohammadkhel and local leaders also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, six people, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents in parts of Mardan city on Monday.

Police said Akhlaq Ahmad and his relative Fakharul Islam were killed by unidentified gunmen in Bhai Khan area of Rustam city, while Farhad Ali was gunned down by Ameen Khan and Shams Duha in the same area.

They said they had registered separate cases against alleged killers and began investigation.

Police also said a woman and her eight-year-old son were killed and one of their relatives seriously injured after a tractor-trolley hit their motorcycle on Mardan Western Bypass Road.

They identified the dead people as Raham Bibi and Fawad and the injured man as Noor Khan and said the latter had been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar due to critical condition.

Police said Jabar, Iftikhar and Mehmand allegedly killed Sher Alam near Dohsara Chowk over a dispute.

They said they had booked the three for the murder at the complaint of the slain person’s brother. —Jamal Hoti
