KARACHI, Sept 9: A suspected bandit was killed in what police described as an encounter in the New Karachi Industrial Area on Sunday.

The area SHO, Ishtiaq Ghauri, said that four suspects entered a textile mill in New Karachi’s Sector 6-B and the management of the industrial unit informed the police, which responded immediately.

He said the police challenged the suspects and an encounter ensued during which one of the bandits suffered fatal bullet wounds and died before he could be shifted to hospital. However, his three accomplices escaped, the SHO added.

The police seized a TT pistol from the possession of the deceased.

They shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Later, the body was taken to the Edhi morgue for a want of identification.

A man was shot dead and an associate of his was wounded in Mohammadi Colony, better known as Machhar Colony, within the remit of the Mauripur police station early on Sunday.

Police said the incident took place near Qadafi Chowk, where Mohammad Hussain, 30, and Abdul Rahim, 29, were sitting near their home when two armed men riding a motorcycle emerged there and opened fire on them.

Both men sustained bullet wounds and were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where Mr Hussain died during treatment.

The police suspected some personal enmity as a likely motive behind the incident.
