TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 26: The granddaughter of a former minority councillor was killed in an accident on the Shorkot Road on Wednesday.
Hameed Masih was returning along with his family after attending prayers. His granddaughter, Meena, 6, was trying to cross the road when a pick-up crushed her. She died on the spot.
The driver escaped leaving behind his vehicle.
In the meantime, the people who were returning from the church attacked another pick up in which the body of baby was being taken to the DHQ hospital for autopsy. They badly damaged the vehicle.
Later they took out a protest procession and demanded immediate arrest of the driver.
The City police claimed that driver Shabbir Sharif had been arrested.
DEATH SENTENCE: The additional district and sessions judge on Thursday convicted two people of rape and murder while acquitted a woman by giving her the benefit of the doubt.
The judged sentenced Saifur Rehman to death along with Rs100,000 fine and Pervez to life term and Rs70,000 fine.
The convicts had raped and murdered Najma of Chak 319-JB and threw her body in canal.
Convict Saif’s mother Kulsoom was acquitted.
