PESHAWAR, Dec 26: The NWFP Assembly on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the government to ensure the implementation of the Seventh Wage Award in the newspaper industry in order to remove grievances of the working journalists.

The resolution moved by Pir Mohammad Khan of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal was supported by the entire house. The mover said that the wage award was being given to the working journalists and newspaper workers under the Newspapers Employees (Conditions of Service) Act 1973.

Taking the floor, NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan said that the government would not object if the resolution was adopted by the House.

Earlier, the journalists staged a protest walkout from the press gallery against the non-implementation of the Seventh Wage Award by the newspaper owners.

Three provincial ministers, Fazle Ali, Inayatullah and Hafiz Akhtar Ali, visited the press gallery and held talks with the protesting journalists and assured them of their full support in the implementation of the Seventh Wage Award.

The journalists later ended their boycott and returned to the press gallery for the coverage of the assembly proceedings.—APP
