TIMERGARA, Sept 5: Police personnel and members of a local Lashkar foiled an attempt to carry out a suicide attack in Lower Dir on Wednesday.

A man wearing a suicide vest was killed in an explosion near a police station, sources said. There was no other casualty in the incident.

Muhammad Ijaz Butt, the District Police Officer of Lower Dir, told journalists that the man wanted to hit police personnel. But policemen gunned him down some 60 metres from the Mayar police station.

Some residents of the area, however, said the man blew himself up after he was besieged by security personnel and volunteers of the Lashkar.
