The Pashtun community of North America held its first-ever International Pashto Conference in Springfield, Virginia last weekend. Organisers said they were attempting to “promote the Pashto language and culture besides portraying the true face of the Pakhtun society.” Speakers from across North America and Europe attended the event, where the first-ever Pashtun Canadian Parliamentarian, Senator Salma Attaullah Jan was also in attendance.  Sarfaraz Khan Afridi, a young Pashto singer from Pakistan, enthralled the audience with his popular songs.— Photos courtesy Pakhtoon American Community Association/Text by Zaher Shah Sherazi
