Three killed

RAWALPINDI, Sept 4: Three persons were shot dead, while two others were injured in a clash between the two rivals groups over land dispute in Rawat on Tuesday night, police said.

Preliminary police report suggested that Malik Zulfiqar 35 and his cousin Malik Gulfraz 55 had an old dispute of land with their relative Waqar Safdar 19.

Police said Gulfraz and Zulfiqar were standing on their land, when their rivals arrived at the scene and started a quarrel.

While they were quarrelling, Waqar Safdar and his accomplices opened fire killing Zulfiqar and Gulfraz at the spot and injuring Aqib Saleem and Waqar Hussain.

On seeing the two men killed by their rivals, the people who were accompanying the deceased also replied in the same and opened fire on Waqar Safdar injuring him critically.

He also died while being removed to the hospital, raising the death toll to three in the clash.The dead and injured were removed to the District Headquarters Hospital where one of the injured Saqib Saleem is stated to be in critical condition. When the superintendent of police Sadar Waheedur Rehman Khattak was contacted, he said police have started raids to trace the accused who escaped from the scene.—Staff Reporter

Police torture man to death

TAXILA, Sept 4:  Six policemen including an investigation officer (IO) were booked for torturing a murder accused to death on Tuesday.

Sources said that Wah Saddar Police picked Yousaf Khan, an Afghan national, from Fatehjang a few days back on charges of killing a policeman Niaz Ahmed.

The policeman was shot dead during a clash with the outlaws between night on August 12 when during routine patrolling they came across with a four member gang who opened fire at the team killing him on the spot.

Sources said the policemen subjected the accused to severe torture as a result of he died. His body was shifted to the hospital for autopsy. Police high ups have ordered a murder case under section 302 against the policemen. Departmental action would also be taken against them after the post-mortem report.—Correspondent

Coachman electrocuted

TAXILA, Sept 4: A coachman was electrocuted while trying to save his horse from the naked electricity wires in Mohallah Roshan Pura in Hassanabdal police area on Tuesday.

Police and hospital sources said that Inyat Ellahi, 55, was going to pick School children when his horse got stuck in electricity wires fallen due to massive rain during night. As he touched the wires, he received massive electric shock and died on the spot. His horse was also electrocuted. — Correspondent

Man drowns

ISLAMABAD, Sept 4: The Navy divers on Tuesday fished out the body of a young man who drowned in Korang Nullah on Monday, police said.

A mentally challenged Rustam Khan, 17, slipped in the nullah at Sharifabad while walking on its bank.

The police reached the spot and divers were also called in to search for the victim, but they remained unsuccessful till the sunset. A search was again conducted on Tuesday which led to the recovery of the body, which was shifted to hospital for legal process. — Staff Reporter

An evening with Naat Khwan

RAWALPINDI, Sept 4: The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday arranged an evening with internationally famous naat khawan and Pride of Performance recipient Syed Manzoor-ul-Konain.

Renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Ishaq Qureshi presided over the ceremony while MPA Ziaullah Shah was invited as chief guest accompanied by Waqar Ahmed, Resident Director RAC.

A mehfil-e-naat was also held in which famous naat khawan from all over Pakistan participated. Dr Ishaq Qureshi said that Manzoorul Konain was the national and religious asset. He is one of the living legends of the naat world.

MPA Ziaullah Shah said that it was a great honour for him to be the part of such a great ceremony. He said that Manzoorul Konain had spent his whole life in this field. Irshad Anjum Qureshi thanked the administration of the RAC for extending their full cooperation and added that the RAC has always been active in organising such events.—A Reporter
