LONDON, Sept 2: Newly-signed Giampaolo Pazzini grabbed a hat-trick as AC Milan beat Bologna 3-1 for their first win of the Serie A season on Saturday while Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund had to come from behind to draw 1-1 at Nuremberg.

Lyon rallied from a goal down to beat Valenciennes 3-2 and move top of the French league and Malaga celebrated qualifying for the Champions League group stage for the first time with a 1-0 victory at Real Zaragoza that put them level on points with Real Mallorca at the top of La Liga.

Pazzini, who joined Massimiliano Allegri’s side last week in a swap deal with Inter Milan involving Antonio Cassano, put Milan in front with a generous penalty in the 16th minute, restored the Rossoneri’s lead in the 77th after Bologna goalkeeper Federico Agliardi lost control directly in front of the goal, then added an insurance strike in the 85th.

“This is a good sign for me and those who believed in me,” said Pazzini as he clutched the match ball after the game. “I’m very happy I scored goals for the team in a difficult match.”

Alessandro Diamanti, who made some solid appearances for Italy at the European Championship, had equalised for Bologna with a penalty in the 42nd.

Meanwhile, Torino picked up their first victory by beating 10-man Pescara 3-0.

In Germany, Dortmund had to settle for a point in Franconia after a lively performance from Nuremberg.

Nuremberg opened scoring in the 31st minute as striker Tomas Pekhart jumped above Dortmund defender Mats Hummels to head home a corner. But Dortmund responded nine minutes later through midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski.

“I had the impression that we had more of the game, especially in the first half, which I liked, but we were missing the final punch,” admitted Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp.

Also, Werder Bremen beat Hamburger SV 2-0 to win the league’s 97th northern derby while promoted Eintracht Frankfurt routed nine-man Hoffenheim 4-0 to top the Bundesliga table.

Jefferson Farfan provided the assists for all three of Schalke 04’s goals in their 3-1 win over Augsburg, Bayer Leverkusen won 2-0 against Freiburg and promoted Fortuna Duesseldorf drew 0-0 with local rival Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Over in Spain, Manuel Pellegrini’s Malaga were deserved winners on a poor, sand-strewn Romareda pitch thanks to Ignacio Camacho’s near-post header from a corner in the 56th minute.

Mallorca then saw off Real Sociedad in the late kick-off after Victor Casadesus stooped to nod the ball into the corner of the net 15 minutes from time to secure a 1-0 win at the Iberostar Estadi.

Both teams have seven points from three matches, one ahead of Barcelona, Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano who all have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo downed Osasuna 2-0 and Getafe drew 1-1 at Deportivo La Coruna.

Lyon kept their unbeaten start to the new Ligue 1 campaign going thanks to goals by Michel Bastos, Bafetimbi Gomis and Clement Grenier after Gil had put Valenciennes ahead. Gregory Pujol grabbed a late consolation.

Champions Montpellier claimed their first win of the season as they downed Sochaux 3-1 at the Stade Bonal, former Barcelona forward Ludovic Giuly shone as Lorient hammered Nancy 3-0, St Etienne won 3-0 at Bastia while Toulouse were held to a disappointing 1-1 home draw by promoted Stade Reims.—Agencies
