ISLAMABAD, Dec 24: Paying glowing tributes to the Poet of the East, the Iranian President Dr Mohammad Khatami on Tuesday called upon the Muslim fraternity to seek guidance from “our great teacher” Allama Iqbal “and take many fruitful lessons from him on how to support and safeguard Islam.”

This is imperative, he stated, when we are today calling for the defence of our Islamic creed and our religious doctrines.

“If we accomplish this task with the ministration of our humanistic and justice-seeking teachings of Islam, the horribly dark night of oppression and transgression overshadowing the present world will soon be conquered by the bright light of dawning peace, security, freedom and justice.”

Dr Khatami said this while delivering a talk on “Dialogue Among Civilizations,” at the Institute of Strategic Studies, telecast live by PTV from the National Library auditorium. The talk was attended by federal ministers and eminent members of his entourage, besides diplomatsand scholars. —APP
