BANNU, Aug 28: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F (JUI-F) was unofficially declared the winner of by-election for a provincial seat here on Tuesday.

According to unofficial results of 86 polling stations of KP-70, Bannu, Irfanullah Durrani bagged 42,000 votes, while Zaffar Ali Zaffari (independent) got 759 votes, Rehmatullah Kaka Jan (independent) 547 and Sadiqur Rehman (independent) 421.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Ziad Akram Durrani, son of Akram Khan Durrani, Leader of the Opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

No political party had fielded its candidate to express solidarity with Akram Durrani, who is a former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The polling started at 8am and concluded at 5pm amid tight security arrangements. Of the 102 polling stations, 60 were declared sensitive.
