MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 27: Five persons, including an infant, were killed and four others were wounded after their jeep fell into a deep gorge in a hilly area of district Sudhnoti, police said.

The victims, five adults and four children, were travelling in a Suzuki Mehran car from Rawalakot to Rawalpindi when they met the tragic accident near Khad Pull in the jurisdiction of Mang Police Station, some 20 kilometres out of Rawalakot.

DIG Poonch Yasin Qureshi told Dawn by telephone that the car went out of driver’s control due to tyre burst and fell into the deep gorge.

As a result, Zayafat son of Asif (driver) his wife Mehnaz, Attique, son of Rehman, Kausar, wife of Zaki and her 4-month-old son Hammad died on the spot.   The injured included Nazish, wife of Attique and three young children identified as Aysha Zayafat, Mehraj Zayafat and Holia Ashiq were admitted in Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahayan Hospital Rawalakot.

The DIG said that the car was being used by its owner-driver as a taxi but some residents told Dawn that the victims belonged to one family and were returning to Rawalpindi after attending a funeral in their native Daar village in district Poonch.—Staff Correspondent
