THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Punjab Public Service Commission’ by Dr S. Anwaar A. Bugvi (Aug 19). I agree with the views of the writer. It is a fact that the whole system in Punjab is by and large being run by those cronies of the government who are not only inept and incompetent but also known for their corruption.

It is a fact that corrupt officers are well-connected with people in power corridors.

They can make the mare go through money to get their favourite postings and other perks. Corrupt officers can pile up a number of MPAs at the secretariat for transfers/ postings of their cronies whereas an honest officer will not only be humiliated but will also not be provided even a vehicle for his/her official work.

Every government has to rely on bureaucracy whose agenda in most cases is not pro-people, rather it promotes a colonial style of administration.

People have to waste months in the secretariat for the movement of their file from one office to another.

This results in wastage of resources. There is no system of accountability for such inordinate delays on the part of ‘desi goras’.

The Punjab chief minister has failed miserably to bring in a system of good governance in the province.
