Held Kashmir issue little known in US

SARGODHA, Dec 23: The Kashmir issue should be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions.

This was observed here on Sunday evening by Robert J. Giuda, a member of house of representatives of New Hampshire state, while talking to Dawn. Mr Giuda is accompanying his fellow legislator Saghir A. Tahir who is here on a brief private visit.

Mr Giuda expressed his dismay over non-implementation of Security Council resolutions.

He said in a determined tone that he would support the right of plebiscite to the Kashmiri people.

He was ignorant of the Kashmir issue. When Mr Tahir told him about the issue, he said he agreed to visit the Line of Control.

He said he saw Indian shelling on Pakistan without any provocation and luckily survived while he was visiting LoC.

He said he was disturbed when some refugees gave details of the atrocities of Indian forces against innocent Kashmiris and decided to create awareness among the America people and the state government about the issue.

He said the American people did not think like their government and Pakistanis should not be misguided. They opposed to the government policies on Pakistan.

The Americans have no vindictiveness against Pakistani people after September 11 incident and never hold them responsible for the act of terrorism, he added.

He said the people of his state did believe that Pakistanis were friendlier than others and they were trustworthy ally against terrorism.

He said he had been in Pakistan for the last few days and visited most of the big cities but found no bias of the people towards him or saw any terrorism.

He blamed the media for exaggerating certain routine happening by publishing or telecasting sensational news.

Mr Giuda said if the Americans had any vindictiveness against the Muslims or Pakistanis, they would not have elected Mr Tahir for the second term.

Mr Tahir said he faced no problem after Sept 11 incident. Muslims were elected to the house of representatives in almost every state. They played their role in the elections, he added.

He criticized Pakistan delegates who visited the US but did not highlight the Kashmir issue.

He donated Rs300,000 for the construction of rooms in Haji Sardar Khan Ranjha Trust Hospital, Bhagtanwala, some 20 kilometres from here.
