THIS is apropos a letter written by grieved father Shahid Aijaz who lost his young son at Kotri picnic spot while swimming in Indus river. I can feel the grief which the father may be under going to lose his young son in an unnatural death.

Let this be clear that the mighty Indus is not a canal or rivulet, its water, gushing from doors of the Kotri Barrage, is furious enough to kill anybody who comes in its current. I may further add here that Al-Manzer is definitely a good picnic spot but as its name suggests, to see the view but not to swim.

My humble opinion is that no lifeguard to be present there as it will encourage the youngsters to go into the river, instead there should be extended barbed wire and Police on duty to stop youngster to dive in the water for fun sake. Signboards be fitted at the bank of river displaying the danger of swimming in the river. As written in the letter by Mr Shahid Aijaz that fisherman informed him that during the month 25 to 30 bodies have been recovered in the same manner. Well said: “Care is better than cure”.
