KARACHI, Aug 23: An activist of the Pakistan People’s Party youth wing was shot dead in Orangi Town on Thursday.

Police said Nazish, 28, son of Habibullah, was riding his motorcycle in Sector 11½ of Orangi Town when gunmen apparently following him on their two-wheeler targeted him.

The victim suffered three gunshot wounds and died on the way to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).

Police said the victim was a resident of the same area where the killing took place. They said the victim had survived two similar attacks in the past.

He ran a general store in the area and was the information secretary of the People’s Youth, Orangi Town.

A statement issued by PPP president of Karachi division Qadir Patel and general secretary Syed Najmi Alam condemned the killing. They demanded the immediate arrest of suspects involved in it.

Body in a gunny bag

The body of an unidentified man was found near the new Sabzi Mandi off the Superhighway on Thursday.

Police said the body stuffed in a gunny bag was found at the terminal of A-3 route minibuses within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

Sub-divisional police officer of Sohrab Goth Iftikhar Lodhi said the victim was apparently kidnapped and killed by suspects who dumped his body at the scene.

The victim was trussed up and had been shot in the chest and head, the SDPO said.

Police shifted the body to ASH for medico-legal formalities. Later the body was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Landlord killed

A landlord was killed allegedly by his tenant within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station on Thursday.

Police said that Anwar Multani, 40, was shot in Ayub Goth near a police kiosk. He was rushed to ASH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sohrab Goth SDPO Iftikhar Lodhi said Mr Multani was shot by his tenant Muzaffar Sheikh and Mohammad Kamran. Both parties were engaged in a dispute as the landlord wanted his tenants to vacate the premises.

Following the incident, the suspects had fled, but the police arrested them later and seized two pistols from them, the SDPO said.

Young man

A young man was killed in an apparent incident of accidental firing in the Landhi Industrial Area on Thursday.

Police said that machine operator Amanullah, 28, died after suffering a gunshot wound at a garment factory within the remit of the Sukhan police station.

They added that the incident took place when factory security officer Mohammad Umar gave his rifle to machine mechanic Irshad to service it. During cleaning, a bullet in the chamber of the rifle went off, hitting Amanullah.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Later the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Following the incident, police detained Irshad and Umar. The victim was a resident of Labour Colony in Landhi and had married over a year ago.
