Man killed

CHAKWAL, Aug 19: A man was clubbed to death while his mother and brother were injured critically in Karsal village, police said on Sunday.

A land dispute was running between Zamurad Khan and his cousins. A couple of days ago Hakeem Fazal Hussain, the cousin of Zamurad Khan, cultivated the controversial land. As Zamurad came to know that the land had been cultivated, he came out of his home on his tractor to plough that chunk of land. The disputed land was located near the house of Hakeem Fazal Hussain. As Zamurad started ploughing the land, Hakeem Fazal Hussain along with seven other persons attacked him with clubs.

The news spread in the village like wildfire and Ahmad Khan and Gahran Bibi, the brother and mother of Zamurad, rushed to the spot.  The attackers did not spare them either and beat them black and blue. The three persons were severely injured.  When the assailants realised the critical plight of the victims, they brought them to their home where they gave them first aid.

Zamurad Khan died in the house of his cousin, Hakeem Fazal Hussain, while his mother Gahran Bibi and brother Ahmad Khan were admitted to the hospital.

“We have registered a case against Hakeem Fazal Hussain and seven other persons and started investigations,” Station House Officer at Neela Police Station Chaudhry Lehrasab Ali Khan told Dawn. He said the accused would be arrested soon. —A Correspondent

Security plan

TAXILA, Aug 19: In the wake of recent attacks at an Air Force installation, the local administration with the collaboration of police has finalised foolproof security arrangements in twin cities of Taxila and Wah Cantonment to maintain peace on occasion of Eidul Fitr. In this connection, holidays of cops have been cancelled.

Sources said that Police has made elaborate security arrangements in the twin cities of Taxila and Wah Cantt; as officials of the Police have been deployed in uniform and in plainclothes at the city's sensitive places to thwart any act of sabotage, he said.

He said — sensing the overall security situation — security personnel would also perform duties at rooftops of sensitive buildings and important areas.

Sources in local administration told this correspondent that the Police issued an alert notice to officers to make foolproof security arrangement for Eid.

The law enforcement agencies have deployed additional security personnel including police outside mosques, shopping centres and other public places.

The city police have called their reserve force to augment security. Sources said that police officials have been directed to take action against those giving motorcycles and vehicles on rent without number plates.

Moreover, as most of the residents of the garrison city belong to different parts of the country, have left for their hometowns to celebrate the religious festival of Eidul Fitr with their near and dear ones.

The twin cities of Taxila and Wah Cantt are likely to stay in sleep-mode for the next three to four days, after most of the government and private offices closed down for Eid.
