Sohail sparkles in Greens victory

LAHORE, Dec 22: Sohail Abbas slammed thrice to help Pakistan Greens outclass Pakistan Whites 6-1 in the NBP hockey league at the National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Greens, who had earlier thrashed Juniors 7-1, got off to a flying start as Whites went 2-0 down within opening five minutes when Mudassir Khan scored twice, first in the 2nd minute, and then in 5th minute.

Sohail, Pakistan’s penalty corner specialist, enhanced the lead ten minutes before the halftime on a short corner.

A penalty corner converted in the 44th minute by discarded striker Sameer Hussain was the only consolation for the Whites.

Sohail scored his second when he converted another penalty corner in the 52nd minute, making it 4-1. Mohammad Sarwar, however, spoilt Sohail’s hat trick, scoring through a penalty stroke in the 62nd minute.

Sohail sealed the fate of the match, netting his third and his side’s sixth in the last minute of the play off a penalty corner.

Greens got six short corners of which converted three, while Whites scored only one out of six.
