RAWALPINDI, Aug 17: City traffic police have decided to deploy armed police personnel with traffic wardens in the garrison city for “security vigilance” in the light of intelligence and to keep smooth flow of traffic on Chand Raat.

City Traffic Officer Syed Ishtiaq Hussain Shah told a press conference that the City Police Officer Rawalpindi had been requested to provide police personnel, to be deployed with 275 traffic wardens for managing traffic in commercial areas.

“Leaves of the traffic wardens have been cancelled and every police officer will be on duty to manage the traffic and to keep vigil on suspicious elements during Eid days,” CTO Syed Istiaq Shah said and added: “Recently, quick response from traffic wardens helped the district police to avert some robbery attempts that led to the arrest of culprits.”

He said a special traffic plan had been chalked out to maintain smooth flow of traffic as the city had been divided into three sectors –City Circle, Mehrabad Circle and Cantonment Circle.

The CTO said as many as 200 wardens will be deployed in Murree during Eid days.

He said barriers would be placed at Committee Chowk under-pass to check motorbike wheeling and car scatting as nobody would be allowed to risk his life by showing tricks on motorbike or car.

He also appealed the parents to keep an eye on their lads as it would be of great help to the police as well.

Expressing his concern over the mushrooming encroachments in the city, the CTO said it had been a major hurdle in regulating the traffic on city roads.

He said that the traffic wardens had been directed not to give ticket to the drivers on minor traffic violations during Eid days and instructed them to be polite towards drivers.

The CTO said the city traffic police will take strict action against those transporters who were found over-charging and overloading during Eid days.

However, he warned that those vehicles with black films on their glasses and hanging ‘Applied for” plate would be dealt according to the law.
