32 released from jail

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17: Thirty-two under-trial and convicted prisoners involved in minor crimes were released from the Adiala jail on Friday on the orders of capital’s executive and judicial magistrate.

The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday issued a notification to the magistrate to visit the jail and get released those prisoners involved in minor crimes.

Besides, those UTPs who were involved in minor crimes but due to their financial status could not pay the fine or get bail from the court of law were also released. —Staff Reporter

Holidays cancelled

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 17: AJK Inspector General Police Dr Tarik Ahmed Khokhar has cancelled holidays of all police personnel in view of the security situation in the country.

A spokesman for the AJK Police told Dawn here on Friday that the step had been taken by the police chief in the wake of two terror attacks in Kamra and Babusar Top area.

“Although AJK is a peaceful area yet the police cannot take any chances and that’s why the IGP has passed categorical directions that all police personnel should remain present at their respective places of duty during the upcoming Eid holidays to meet any eventuality,” the spokesman said.—Staff Correspondent

Encroachments

RAWALPINDI, Aug 17: Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) launched an operation against stallholders who had set up stalls on footpaths, creating hurdles for smooth flow of traffic.The operation was carried on the directives of Rawal Town Administrator Anwar Saif Jappa. The TMA staff has launched an operation against encroachers and this would continue till Chand Raat.

Town Officer Regulation Aftab Chohan said the TMA was engaged to remove encroachments from the city’s roads.

The campaign has been started in Commercial Market, Khayaban-i-Sir Syed, Bhabra Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Pirwadhai, Muslim Town, Sadiqabad, College Road and Benazir Bhutto Road. Administrator Rawal Town Anwar Saif Jappa asked the traders community to cooperate with the TMA staff to remove encroachment so that smooth flow of traffic could be ensured. — APP
