ISLAMABAD: General James Mattis, Commander of US Central Command, departed Pakistan today after holding a series of meetings with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Secretary of Defence Lt Gen (Retd.) Asif Yasin Malik and other senior military officials.

The officials discussed a wide range of common security issues, including militant network activities and measures to improve cross-border cooperation.

General Mattis acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Pakistani military in their fight against extremists, and offered his condolences for the nearly 5,000 Pakistani military personnel who have fallen in support of that cause.

General Mattis was grateful for the time afforded him by his Pakistani counterparts and reaffirmed the importance of the US-Pakistani security relationship — not only to ongoing operations in Afghanistan but also to regional stability. They agreed to continue to meet periodically to further common objectives on cross-border cooperation and regional security.

very good comments,although we have more than enough talents in the country in most fields,unfortunately we are bankrupt in political leadership.All party leaders are busy in Iftaries and have no brains or national interests.

US has her hand tied without Pakistan as we have seen during the supplies' blockade. We, in particular our leaders, just need to take a stand as a nation and look after our interests.

Well said... "Those who ridicule the people will perish" Sure they will as this is the trait of losers or those who are not competent enough to do anything positive. They just point out negatives in others or taunt and ridicule other people (like Hassan Nisar for example). We have many in media now a days. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is speaking up about social issues, religion, sports, economics, you name it. These Quacks have done nothing other than confusing the nation.

Pakistani's as a nation are second to none when they unite and stand up against any enemy. Wish if the leadership comes up to the required level to lead the masses to achieve objectives set by the father of the nation. We have all the resources bestowed upon by nature, man power, brilliant brains, people ever ready to sacrifice. What we lack is dedicated leadership, instead of the self centered, stiff necked. Those who ridicule the people will perish.

If Kayani believes the rubbish his US counterpart is conning him with than he is even less intelligent than he looks...no wonder he got promoted to the top. That is the Pakistani way to the top.

I would not trust any American govt personnel including military forces because of their selfish and pompus attitude and in their own interest and not Pakistan. As has been proved they withdraw aid when we stand up against the Americans. It's high time that pakistanis starts standing on it's own feet and not on international handouts. We have enough pakistani talent, so why not use it.
