QUETTA, Aug 15: At least two policemen were killed and six other people, including an officer and a bank cashier, injured in an ambush in Bareet area of Awaran district on Wednesday evening.

The attackers looted Rs3.8 million from government employees’ salary and took away official weapons of the policemen.

According to sources, a vehicle carrying the salary and escorted by police was going to Awaran from Uthal when the attackers opened fire on it.

Inspector Abdullah and Assistant Sub-Inspector Israr were killed. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghous Bakhsh was among the injured.

A police official, Noor Ahmed, said the attackers took away four AK-47 rifles and pistols.  Three of the injured were in critical condition.

Bomb blast

A man was killed and eight others were injured in an explosion outside a restaurant in Quetta late in the night. “A man was killed on the spot,” a senior police officer said and added that an improvised explosive device had been planted under a bench outside the restaurant.

The deceased was identified as Jan Muhammad Jan.
